My point isn't really that someone could build a dedicated computer as good as a
PC (since 200 meg databases wouldn't be available) but that dedicated units
should have made much more improvement in both price and ability
considering all the advances that have been made in computer hardware.  As far
as I can tell, we have roughly the same rating/price ratio that we had 10 to 13
years ago.

Sure a pentium chip costs $200, but there are RISC chips that are cheaper.

The reason why someone would choose to buy a dedicated unit is either for the
portability or the low price compared to an entire computer.   Dedicated units
are more likely to be used for playing than they are for analysis.

What I am looking for in a dedicated unit is how much ability can I get for
$100.  13 years ago it was about 2100.  Now it is still about the same.
