World Champion is much more than a title. It´s an institution, a centre of
power, something you can compare, for instance, with the President of US. The WC
balances the Congress, let´s call it FIDE, and the Supreme Court, I don´t know
what to call that. You can´t, with any degree of credibility, appoint such a
person by a knock-out tournament. Khalifman is a very strong chessplayer and he
proved that very distinctly at Linares but he is no institution, which Kasparov
definítly is. Kasparov dominates this sport not only at the board but also in
many other aspects. I´m fascinated by him as a chessplayer but also as an
ambassador of the sport. He seems to have a vision and the power to present it.
