If a human has to choose between two ways to go that lead to ultimately different positions, then choosing between them is a matter of style (assuming they are both evaluated as equal). If the two ways lead to the same position, taking the long route or the short route might be based on whether there is a trap involved in one way or the other, the relative status of the clocks and the closeness of the time control, et cetera. Most computer programs would probably see one of the good moves at depth=5, then by the time it reaches depth=9, it would stick with it unless it thought the second good move to be objectively superior.
