I think these games randomly access several megabytes worth of sprites, so cache does not help much. Take a look at this page: http://www7.tomshardware.com/cpu/98q3/980824/index-05.html Notice that the original Celeron, with no L2 cache at all, still performs in the same ballpark as the "cachy" processors. And the Mendocino Celeron (with on-die cache) performs exactly as well as the Pentium II. If you're talking about chess programs, L2 cache size and performance will affect them dramatically. The new Athlons with on-die L2 cache will be great for chess. -Tom
