From what I have seen and heard about the program it is little more than CM5000 with added voice/multimedia support. There are more tutorials and beginner-oriented materials (Josh Waitzkin (sp?) lessons) but the game itself and it's features don't appear to be much different. As a longtime Chessmaster user (3K, 4K, 5K) I think I will pass on 5500. Maybe it's time I step up to a non-mass market program like Fritz 5 ...I would like to see the patch out first though that KK is calling for. Oh, the other thing CM5500 has is a built in Chessmaster Live interface (their version of ICC). Otherwise you have to download the free CMLive interface off their web site. <--Will-->
