Previously I have asked some questions relating to what the best PC hardware is for running chess programs performantly as possible. Following suggestions, I've since looked at some web sites for more information (in particular, www.tomshardware.com). Although I've been sorting out the Athlons from the PentiumIIIs and the SDRAM from the RDRAM, I'd still appreciate any concrete feedback that anyone can give me based on a high-end machine that they use. What did you buy and from where? Currently, I can buy... PIII 1Ghz, 384Mb RDRAM, from Dell PIII 800Mhz, 384Mb SDRAM 100Mhz, from Dell Athlon 1Ghz, 384Mb SDRAM 100Mhz, from Gateway Obviously there are more and the prices vary. So what is the best (or one of the best) setups? Basically I'd like to invest some significant money into buying a good PC for analysing chess positions. I don't want to waste money on a configuration that is optimised for playing Quake or video editing... What sort of machine specs are used during important matches, apart from Deep Blue... ? ;-) Thanks in advance for any help Gordon
