Hi all,

here is a position from the game Anand vs Topalow, Dortmund 1996:

2r1rbk1/2qb2pp/pp2p3/2n1p1P1/P6Q/4BN2/1PP2RBP/5R1K/ w - - bm b4;

Does any program find this move?

Analyses:

1. ... Nxa4 2. Nxe5! Qxe5 3. Bd4 A) 3. ... Qb5 4. Be4 h6 (4. ... g6 5.
Rf7 1-0) 5. Qh5 1-0. B) 3. ... Qc7 4. Be4 h6 (4. .. g6 5. Rf7 h6/h5 6.
gxh6 1-0) 5. Rf7! e5 6. gxh6 Qd7 7. Qh5 1-0. C) 3. ... Qd6 4. Be4 h6 5.
gxh6 Bc6 (5. ... Qxd4 6. Bh7+ Kxh7 7. Qxd4 Bc6+ 8. Kg1 1-0) 6. Rxf8+!
Rxf8 (6. ... Qxf8 7. Rxf8+ Rxf8 8. Lxc6 Rxc6 9. Qe7 1-0) 6. h7+ Kh8 7.
Lxg7+ Kxg7 8. h8Q+ Rxh8 9. Qg5 mate!

If 1. b4 is too difficult we could go ahead one move:

2r1rbk1/2qb2pp/pp2p3/4p1P1/nP5Q/4BN2/2P2RBP/5R1K/ w - - bm Nxe5;

My results for 2. Nxe5 (P-120/24)

Genius 5 DOS = 01:41 !!!
Rebel 8           = 54:53
Fritz 5              = not in 60:00
W-Chess 1.03 = not in 60:00

Ciao
Torsten
