Me and my program are a package deal.  I don't think it would be fair to the
other competitors to inflict my program on them if I didn't also inflict myself
on them.

It's also against the rules, technically, and since I'm in favor of the rule,
and in fact my griping may be the reason the rule exists, it wouldn't make much
sense to try to break it.
