Very interesting, but even more is the work by Poe to demostrate the imposibility of the automaton being a real machine playing chess. Inm fact what he probes is the imposibility to conceive modern comuter as mechanisms, but of coyurse he did not know about computers...I have always considered the pice by Poe as a master work of pure, deuctive reasoning scarcely aided by empirical facts. The works is named "The Maelzel chess Player" or something of the sort.... Fernando
