Go up one level in this thread

Just so you know... our campus ftp machine in CIS (the one I am responsible for) has really attracted the attention of our campus network folks. :) They have noticed the following: (1) we are sustaining about 70mbits/second 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, non- stop (downloads going out of the department). The majority of this is the databases. (2) they used to could tell when Eugene would upload a new set of 5 piece files, as they would see a big spike in net usage. The spike has been smoothed out to a continual 70mbits/sec now, it seems. We are averaging about 40 ftp users non-stop, many sucking up the 6 piece files, which is amazing. (3) we have a campus traffic monitor, and it consistently has juniper.cis.uab.edu at the very top of the list traffic-wise, this in a university/medical center with over 20,000 employees and about that many computers. We are _definitely_ noticed. And yes, before you ask, everyone knows what is being downloaded "those big chess databases" as they are locally known. :) This download phenomenon is really amazing. I would never have guessed this level of activity non-stop.
