If the goal is to find the best program, just do a series of a bunch of long
matches, or a zillion round tournament, or whatever, and simply don't have a
7-round Swiss at all.

If the goal is to find the best program with high confidence, a 7-round Swiss is
moronic.

If people don't show up in person, people won't show up in person, and it will
be pointless to show up in person. The point of these is to show up in person,
so people should show up in person.

If people think that my program is the most interesting thing about my
participation in these tournaments, I'm a little offended. Ferret is more than
a disk with "Ferret" written on it.

It is a shame that you haven't been able to be at any of them. You haven't been
there to see the problems caused when someone sends in a disk.
