How many places in North America are actively working on computer chess?

WCCC 1989 was outside of Europe (in Edmonton, Alberta, with Tony and Jonathan).
WCCC 1992 was in Europe.
WCCC 1995 was outside of Europe (in Hong Kong). (Who sponsored that? IBM?)
WCCC 1999 was in Europe.
WCCC 200? would be a good time for it to return to North America. Maybe the
USA? Who is active in computer chess there?

At the risk of sounding like I want to pass the buck, I suggest that Bob
investigate the possibility of UAB hosting it.
