The comment George made applies whether it's Nunn or not. If you want to test anything about strength, the conditions should be fair. Don't you agree? The problem with Nunn is that it doesn't test the program as a package deal. Testing whether a program is better at Nunn or not can't be extrapolated to estimate the actual strength, but you can say that x is probably stronger than y using Nunn positions. Providing that enough games have been played of course. However, I doubt that Nunn is fair, so I wouldn't use them. But I can't prevent you from using them either. I believe in testing programs as a whole, not engines with more or less arbitrary handicaps or additions. >OK let me see if I say it if you agree? Since just by me posting something >or the subject is about me or my testing you are bound to not let it pass. That is only because your posts are so interesting and that isn't meant ironically. >These programs differ very little in playing strength. If you had answered the questions/comments I've send you, then an interesting discussion might actually take place, but since you consider me to be Dr. Evil I won't get my hopes up. There wasn't enough games IMO, but I think we might agree on this. >Or you should have checked with taskinfo or something at least check >something before you agree. I agreed on the assumption that interference with cpu time and ram usage might effect a program. Since starting IE will cause that, I see no point in questioning the assumption. I've tried starting IE and/or Outlook myself while a match was being played and there was an effect. The problem is the significance of using other types of software and how they're configured. I'm unable to answer that question. Sincerely, Mogens Chr. Larsen http://home1.stofanet.dk/Moq/ "If virtue can't be mine alone, at least my faults can be my own."
