A new perspective on WMCCC machines ratings (posting forwarded) Chris To all 15WMCC participants I have just received a phone call from Mr. Eric Caen of Titus Software advising me AMD is unable to meet its commitment to supply either 266 MHz or 233 MHz machines as agreed. Apparently these machines are selling so well that AMD USA is unable (unwilling) to deliver 40 of them to France as promised. They will be supplying 200 MHz machines. I know that many of you will be disappointed not only at this news, but also at the lateness of it. I too am upset, but understand that an AMD representative will be on hand at the start of the event on Sunday 26 October to explain the situation. Those of you who really want the faster machines and who are able to bring their own are urged to do so. In a separate matter, and in the same phone call, I learned that there has been a miscommunication somewhere in the provision of sets and clocks for the event. David Levy is looking into the matter and I am confident that a uniform collection of sets and boards will be provided (even if they have to be bought specially for the occasion). However, I would appreciate it if as many of you as possible can bring a chess clock for you to use. Customarily many people bring their own clocks, since these are light and small enough to travel quite well. I will bring mine too. Sorry that this information comes to you with such short lead time, but it is being forwarded within minutes of my being appraised of the situation. Bon voyage a Paris Tony Marsland
