Hi Ed, My computer has 16 KB of internal cache on the microprocessor and 256 KB of static random-access memory (SRAM) level 2 (L2) cache. Cache memory that enhances the speed of many microprocessor operations by storing the most recently accessed contents of system memory. I am wondering whether or not it is necessary to put a line of C:\windows\smartdrv.exe in autoexec.bat file on my Rebel9 bootdisk. With smartdrv.exe my computer will take up about more than 2 million bytes of cache memory, and I don't know if Rebel9 will use it for databases and opening books. Without smartdrv.exe I assume my computer will use only 256 KB of cache memory automatically. Including 2 MB of smartdrv cache memory does not reduce the 28 MB hash tables, and I assume it does not reduce the speed and power of Rebel9 either but I am not sure, does it? Should I include smartdrv in my Rebel9 bootdisk to optimize performance of databases and opening books? I don't know. Please answer me. The reason for writing this message for you is that yesterday when I entered the database, the lower right small chess board had three or four squares of d-file were abnormally blank and one knight (I don't remember if it was Black or White) was "dropped" below the board. I thought maybe it was buggy or maybe Rebel9 did not have enough cache memory. What is your advise? However, after I rebooted, loaded Rebel9, and entered the database again, the lower right chess board was fine. I don't know why it happened so. Do you know why? For your info: my computer is 166 MHz Pentium with MMX, 40 MB RAM, and 2.1 GB harddisk. I use Windows 95 but I use Rebel9 in pure MS-DOS. Thank you very much for your help. :) Eran Rebel9 enduser
