Subject: An open call to all USCF rated players from the Chessmaster developers

Author: John Merlino

Date: 11:33:12 05/24/00

Following is a letter that has already been sent out to many of the contacts
that the Chessmaster development team already has dealt with. I have been given
permission to put this same letter on this board.

Anyone who is interested should write to chessmaster@mindscape.com with a
subject line that makes it obvious that you are interested in this offer, as
well as your home address and daytime phone number. You will then be contacted
when the time comes to do the testing (early to mid June).

Enjoy!

Dear Chess Player:

The Chessmaster team is currently in development on Chessmaster 8000, the next
version of the Chessmaster computer chess game series. As many of you know, the
product contains a large number of computer opponents. We like to make every
effort to ensure that the ratings of these computer players are reasonably
accurate.

Chessmaster 8000 will be running with a new, more powerful chess engine and as
such, we need to re-calibrate the ratings of our computer opponents.

We are currently looking for USCF rated players in the United States or Canada
to play against some of our computer players. The results of these games will
help us to properly rate our computer personalities. Below are the details:

·	Players must have a current USCF rating of over 500 to participate (ratings
will be verified at the USCF website).
·	Participation will start in early June. Results must be turned in no later
than July 15th.
·	Participants will receive an abbreviated pre-Alpha version of Chessmaster 8000
for the purposes of testing. On release of Chessmaster 8000, each player who
has turned in the required games will receive a boxed copy of the product.
·	Each participant will be required to play a series of six games each against
five separate opponents, for a total of 30 games. Each game will use Fischer
5/10 time controls, so each game will take approximately 20-25 minutes. Total
time commitment over the 6 weeks of participation should be about 10-12 hours
per participant.
·	Participants must have a PC with CD-ROM, Pentium II or better (full set-up
with sound card and mouse), with at least 32 MB RAM, running Windows 95/98, and
100 MB hard drive space.
·	All participants will be required to sign a standard confidentiality agreement
before they will receive their test copy of Chessmaster 8000. Quick turnaround
time for this is essential, which is why we can only accept players in the
United States or Canada.

As mentioned above, all participants will receive a copy of Chessmaster 8000
later this year!

Thank you for your time and we look forward to hearing from you....

The Chessmaster Team
