So downloading bookc.bin would be good for Crafty, but it won't get you a wider variety of openings, I think it narrows it in the eng/eng games. I'd hate to see you putting a large amount of energy into getting it to play more eng/eng openings, you might not succeed. I think Mogens has the answer though, you'd want to download the start.pgn and change the weights (see the text files for instructions) and compile a new books.bin file (and not use a bookc.bin?). I have no idea, but I imagine that you'd need to go though the same basic proceedure to make a bookc.bin file, but I don't know what file Bob compiled that with to start with. Pete
