Creating their own books is a personal favourite of mine, so I'll prefer that
option.

It's not that simple. In principle a computer program can access almost all
opening theory. That is not possible for a member of the species Homo Sapiens.
Some would find that slightly unfair. Another advantage to the computer program
you might say.
