I don't know if it's the best place, but I just started playing at Chessnet http://www.chess.net/ there seems to be allot of people there. It's free, and they have a nice free Windows interface that you can download, so you don't need to learn a whole bunch of commands to do it (much better than using their online Java crap. For me, I'm very new to playing online, so I don't know what the best is, but this is pretty good deal for a newcomer to playing online (being free). My biggest complaint is that _most_ people seem to prefer very fast games, but sometimes you can get an 8 minute or more game too. Pete
