Subject: Shredder and Rodney Dangerfield - what do they have in common?

You got it - they get no respect.

Two years ago I never heard of Shredder. Its surprise win last year was
explained away by many computer-chess authorities. Now I read that
Stefan's preparation for the blitz tournament may have attributed to 20%
of Shredder points...

The fact remains that Shredder's third (it seems) place in the main
event and second in blitz are very respectable showings.

All today's top programs inspire in me a sense jealousy. And if the
program can do it although (admittedly) it is not the fastest tactical
calculator - I am often left with the feeling of awed admiration. but
then again, I always thought that Karpov's talent is more unique that
Kasparov's.
