I want to apologize for my comment on Shredder's strength in Blitz
chess. I did not intend to give a bad review of Shredder. But I have
to admit that certain observations from several sources had brought me
to the
opinion that Shredder might be not this strong in Blitz. To give you
some insights: (a) In the manual of Shredder I it is said that Shredder
is stronger in long time games than in Blitz. (b) If you as a human
play Blitz against Shredder according to the internal clock of Shredder
you will be able to beat it by time! This is a total exception among the
top commercial programs. Thanks to Stefan for designing its clock
mechanism this honestly. However, I got the very wrong impression that a
program which loses on time on its own clock can not be this strong. Of
course this is nonsense ... (c) In almost all media it was said that
Shredder is not strong in Blitz. I became accustomed to ( or
brainwashed by ) this --- which led to my remark in the afterthoughts.
To make it clear, I never played any Blitz games with Shredder against
other programs, so I do not really know about its Blitz strength
relative to other programs. My personal score in Blitz against Shredder
( with the internal clock of Shredder ) is +3 =0 -8. I learned in game 8
that Shredder might lose according to its own clock and was able to get
two more wins in games 9 and 11. In all the other games I was mated.

During my 3-Hirn match against GM Yusupov in Shuffle Chess
Shredder 1.5 was one of the programs ( with k-best mode ) which I used.
And Shredder was a strong part in this 3-Hirn.
Apologies again for giving a wrong impression. Ingo Althoefer.
