Subject: WMCCC Blitz: rule suggestion

Author: Kai Lübke

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the WMCCC Blitz
tournament. Bob said out of the 7 min/game, 5 were used for operator
time, giving Crafty only 2 minutes to think. Others praised certain
operators for their skills in moving very fast.
Comments were made about winning lost games on time, losing won games on
time etc.

These problems somehow invalidate the relevance of such an event.
What about the following suggestion:
Have all programs play with permanent brain turned _off_.
That way, operator time is no longer an issue since it won't matter
whether an operator can make a move in 0,5 seconds or in 20 seconds.
The opponent program will simply not notice and thus have no advantage
if the operator is slow.

I use this trick quite often in test games, even if I have two
independent machines, since I'm sometimes off the board for up to 30
minutes.
