I'm not so sure.  I knew Marion Tinsley well.  He came to Hattiesburg regularly
as that is where the world checker hall of fame is located, and that is where he
played many matches.  He was also a chess player, and came out to my office many
times to take on Cray Blitz.  The last time I talked to him, he was pretty well
convinced that his reign of complete and total domination in checkers was over,
and that Chinook was probably already as good or better than he was, and with
bigger endgame databases it was obviously on the verge of reaching perfect play.

Tinsley wasn't perfect by a long shot, just very, very good.  :)
