I've noticed that CSTal with its very low node count plays very silly
chess in 30-second blitz (lightning). It actually throws away pieces. At
1 minute it no longer throws away pieces, but will leave tactical
opportunities for you. As you increase the time it will play better and
better, but it always feels like a human blitz game, where there is an
opportunity for counterplay for a non-master. The selective, human-like
search of CSTal makes it a fine opponent for non-master level lightning
games. If you get to 5- or 10-minute games, you will probably need to be
a master, though. It also doesn't complain if you take longer to
compensate for your inability to instantly move your pieces. Highly
recommended.
