Computers spend much longer on a position when their evelution goes down as they go deeper. Therefore they defend very strongly, and are hard to beat. They can defend against strong attacking play, much better than they can play the same attacking play. That's why they make boring games. They defend against the opponents profoundest attacks, and don't bother making very profound attacks themselves, as once they find a reasonable move, they don't look further. They will never apply the dictum, "if you see a good move, don't play it, but look for something better". Human are the opposite. They play to win, due to their very nature. They cannot spend their entire energy just on defence, and to avoid defeat. A human doesn't ask himself, how shall my opponent not win,or not draw? they think solely how shall I win? How shall I draw? How shall I defend? Re. defense, the computer asks "how shall my opponents attack fail?] It's very tedious. This is the difference in mentality between human and machine. S.Taylor
