Well, moderators get bashed if they do too much, or too little, so I understand
that you can't please everyone.  I believe in keeping a club-like atmosphere, so
a bit of off-topic banter here and there is fine.  But reading personal attacks
(no, they are not cleverly disguised) is simply unpleasant.  I favor a light
moderation touch, but I would have stepped into this one and at least told
people to keep it factual.  Or maybe I would have just killed it outright, and
then taken flak for it. ;)  Mind you I don't care if people are violently
opposed on a particular subject, but it's possible to argue, even with someone
you don't like, without getting personal. This thread has been about as ugly as
I predicted it would be when I first saw it.
