I can guarantee that there are people >crazy enough to find better positions than this :) 'Rebel Quiz II - mate >in 30' >is a nice idea. Many people enjoyed the previous quiz (including myself) >and this contest would be very interesting. Thanks but I doubt. First there is the 'mate announcement' glitch with mates greater than 23 moves which makes it too difficult to do the 'mate in 30' contest. My second doubt is that too many people will find the job to difficult. But I am open for new ideas to do another contest. What about the following idea... #1. People create a database of 10 positions. #2. The 10 most original databases will be awarded. #3. Again 2 categories, one for Rebel9 and one for Rebel Decade 2.0 #4. So in total 20 prizes like last year (details later) To get an impression of last year see: http://www.rebel.nl/quizres.htm The idea is to install a jury of 3 people who will be in charge for the prize awards. I need volunteers here as I don't want have anything to say about it. But before you volunteer think about the work involved. The jury (for their work) will be awarded too with free Rebel software. It's entirely my job to pick the three jury members of my choice. Definition for the jury how to award is simply the beauty of chess found in the contributed 10 positions including the comments/ annotations/analysis in the 300 characters Rebel is offering you for each move in the move comment. All contributed positions and analysis will be free downloadable from the Rebel Home Page afterwards. If like last year a few hundred people will participate this will be a super download! Comments on the idea are welcome. Is 10 positions too much? 5 or 3? - Ed Schroder - >-- >Jari Kylmälä
