Chris,
I just sent you a password for entrance into the CCR.

If you EVER have any doubts as to the ability of a
chess "magazine" to be neutral when supported by a
commercial entity, I would like to direct you to the
articles by KK in CCR on the Sapphire II,
Diamond II, and the Karpov 2294, three very popular
stand-alone chess computers that we happen to sell.
I think "trashed" is too mild a term for KK's articles.
Many readers disagreed with his analysis, but the
analysis was printed exactly as it was written just
as all articles are.

You will also note several very positive articles on
products that we have chosen not to carry. And several
very negative articles on products we do carry. Sometimes
I read some of the articles that are placed in CCR, and
I wonder whether they were written by my competitors!
But to keep things "kosher", the agreement is that
ICD will not meddle in the editorial content of CCR.

But I think the best evidence that some "reports" style
magazines hosted by commercial entities can be trusted
is the fact that in its 14 year history, the two major
senior editors of CCR have been Larry Kaufman and Enrique
Irazoqui. I think you would be hard-pressed to find
two more trusting and sincere people associated with
computer chess.
- Steve
