Trying every version would be unreasonable, but I believe that they do apply patches, and go on, not renaming the version they are using. So using v17 would be best. I just don't think that 17.07 is the right one to be testing. 17.08 would be the best candidate to try, and go form there. So much has been done in the versions after 17.07, that have improved Crafty immensely.
