Chris,

I don't know if Genius still exhibits this behavor or not, I
just that it SEEMS to see tactical opportunities for itself
much better than it used to.  But then again it does more full
width ply now and Richard also may have tweaked it over the
years to pick up a few more things.  Is the basic search algorithm
and non-opportunistic behavior the same?   I don't know but I'll
bet it is, just less pronounced.

It could be tested with some positions involving the theme of
trapped pieces and relatively slow maneuvers to win them.  I'll
bet Genius doesn't fall for them but doesn't take advantage of
them either!
