I don't think you want a clean "edge" on this boundary.  You want to slowly make
it more important to centralize the king, rather than some sharp boundary.
Because the search can direct itself to positions right along the boundary and
produce some odd scoring results.

This is often called a "discontinuity" in the evaluation and is a bad thing.
