Subject: ICC CCT2

Hi all.

For the last six weeks or so, I've been attempting to get a commitment from ICC
to support this tournament. I've been unable to do so.

Originally, you'll recall, sjlim (Steve Lim, ICC admin) posted here that ICC
wanted to do the tournament, and that he would be the TD. He wanted to know who
would be participating, etc. So I decided to get involved, and the result was a
discussion here about the time-control, dates, format, and players. While that
was developing, I kept Steve informed, and received notes from him indicating he
was following the progress and thanking me for organizing it. He said he would
use the swiss perfect system to pair the games.

When the participants finally came to a concensus about the tournament, I sent
him the player list, dates, and schedule. I asked him to post these to CCC in
his capacity as ICC TD, along with the rules and regulations we had used last
time. This would finalize the arrangements.

However, he didn't respond. Finally, he indicated he was having some problems,
and couldn't do it. I talked to him about it a bit, then began a discussion
with zek (Andy, longtime ICC admin). After a time, Andy indicated that Steve
was busy, and that he (Andy) would handle the CCT2. He further said he would
make an official ICC post here. When that didn't happen, I queried him about
it, and he said that he had determined that he was too busy with the KK match,
and couldn't do it after all. He said that Steve Lim would do it.

You can guess the rest. Steve isn't responding to my messages. I assume that
zek has not been able to find an ICC admin willing to do it, though I haven't
directly asked them all. The fellow who did the first one is Stefan
Friedrickson (misspelled probably), whose handle is tux I believe. I don't know
if he's still active.

So, what do you all think? The tournament is nine days away. Do we have a
volunteer to do the pairings? I personally don't think it's the end of the
world that ICC isn't involved, but I'm disappointed they don't want to be. This
tournament is really for the players, though I would think that some spectators
would be interested in hearing real-time commentary from world-class
programmers. Perhaps someone here with more juice than me can get ICC's
attention, but again, I don't think it's imperative.

Will
