Oops, that last one posted for some reason, and I never got to write anything.

Do you mean me or one of the hundreds of other people named Pete at CCC? I play
a very weak game of Chess. Aside from the people who dropped out (I figure I
beat them) I finished last in the GCF email tournament. I'd be very surprised
if I was even a 1000 player if I played real tournaments.

Chessmentor is good, but somewhat tedious for me. I wouldn't recommend software
personally, I'd recommend books, by Chernev, almost anything is good, maybe "The
most instructive games of Chess ever played...." or "Logical Chess...".
Probably the most important Chess book ever written IMO would be "Lasker's
Manual of Chess", to me, everything else is pale in comparison, but Chernev's
books lay things out in a very coherent way for idiots like me to understand.
Better than getting a "Dummies" or "Idiot's Guide To" type of books.

As for the mouse issue, like Jari said, the Winboard version is good.
Personally, I'm somewhat used to using arrow keys and enter for moving pieces,
so I've allways enjoyed Nero's Dos versions. One of the nice things about the
Winboard version is that if you try to cheat and take back a move (I did) it
hangs up the program and you gotta start a new game, so cheating isn't allowed
(great feature, I like it).

Pete
