Frankly I was surprised Karpov beat Anand in a quickchess playoff: Anand is known for his quickness of play and, as a considerably younger man, might have been better able to take the strain. Perhaps the tough road he took to the final took its toll after all. However, I did think Karpov played better overall - particularly in the endgames - and managed to condense most of his mistakes in one game (the sixth, where I agree with all the comments suggesting 28...Rxg6 was indicated. For that matter, maybe 24...Rh6 might have worked better, also). Personally, I was disappointed Adams didn't beat Anand; it came down to a virtual coin-toss and it would have been nice to see the up and coming English grandmaster squaring of for the (FIDE) world championship, however farcical (as Kasparov calls it) it might be. So what happens now? There are four (?) world heavyweight boxing titles; perhaps we're lucky to have only two world chess champions...I can't see the title being "unified" anytime soon. Regards, Ken
