I've never used the weakened opponents in Chessmaster, so please keep that in
mind when evaluating what I said.

That stuff may be very good, I don't know.  But I know that playing endless
games against a cheesy microprocessor machine will improve your chess, because
that's what I did.  I'm not a great player, but in the early 80's I got out of
class D pretty quickly by playing weak machines.
