Go up one level in this thread

Why stop at 2 bits per W/D/L entry anyway ???

In my article on "Knowledgeable Encoding and Querying of
Endgame Databases" in the ICCA Journal 22(2), pp. 81-97,
June 1999, I have already shown how to go beyond this!

"DarkThought" (http://supertech.lcs.mit.edu/~heinz/dt/)
started using 1-bit tablebases for some 4-men endings
several years ago in 1997. Bring in data mining plus the
automatic generation of decision trees and I am sure that
we can do even better, especially for 5- and 6-men endings.

An electronic preprint of the article is available from
my WWW pages at http://supertech.lcs.mit.edu/~heinz/.

Cheers,

=Ernst=
