let us take 10 of the top programmes ie F5,N98,H6 MCp6etc;let each programme generate 2 positions from its own opening books (presumably as each programme will play the best possible opening moves against itself, these positions should be well balanced); This will lead to 20 different positions (like the Nunn positions) Let the programme in question eg fritz 5 play a match using all positions against all the other 9 programmes with the opening books off, both as white and as black for each position. this will lead to a match of 40 games against each of the programmes.ie 360 games in all. this will probably give a better idea of Fritz strength.the obvious practical problems are 1)Finding an unbiased person or persons with 2 similar computers 2)whether any one can devote so much computer time to conducting such a match even if such people are present. But I think if this is ever possible it should satisfy even thorsten czzub although some one can always find another excuse.
