Chess programs do not use floating point. My cyrix P 166 ran chess programs great. But you need to understand you just can not say this processor or that processor is a scorcher at chess. It makes a big differance on what chess program you are running. Some programs run best on the K6 and some run best on a P II. Rebel I know runs best on a k6 mhz for mhz speed. Crafty Runs best on the P II chip. nimzo 98 i think runs best on a P II and Fritz 5 i am not sure about. More chess companys need to do what rebel has done on there web page and post the speeds of there program on different chips. My advice would be to buy the chip that runs the most programs the fastest. Not just chess programs but all programs. You can find this kind of info at www.zdnet.com. Mark Young
