If book learning is used I would expect to see a program without book learning get stomped. The program without book learning keeps making the same mistakes and as more games are played the program with book learning gets better. At least that is the way I thought it was suppose to work. I created 20 different opening books with only 1 line of 12 moves for each side. I have been playing Cm8000, Fritz 6, Junior 5, Shredder 4, Nimzo2000, Crafty 18.x, and Genius 6.5 using these opening books. No book learning, 1 game as white, 1 game as black. All games played on 1 old slow pc. I have made it through 2 of the books so far. Cm8000 is the 2nd best program so far. I find the games a lot more enjoyable to watch when both programs have to start thinking after 12 moves and there is still a lot of pieces left. I wish there was a standard book used for all games played between pc's.
