The question is: Why aren't you playing ? As David Levy has stated in his letter
quite convincingly, all your problems that were posted here were solved, except
for two (short notice and division of match prize). I will get to those issues
later.

He goes on, quite illogically, to propose something that you didn't even ask
for. If this was an attempt at mediation, it was unique in proposing a solution
that is more extreme than asked by one of the sides. Anyway I talked to Enrique
and he says this is quite impractical now, as there are agreements already
signed with Kramnik, contactual deadlines for starting, etc.

Regarding match prize: I propose that David Levy will use his standing as ICCA
president and his skills as negotiator to get us better terms. We did our part
by saving you $5000 (unless you win), and by limiting the quite serious expenses
that, if you read the original agreement carefully, the challenger was committed
to (it has already been noted here that we are driven by greed!).

Regarding short notice: It is short notice. All of us have to fall on existing
proven versions. I have one. Frans has one. You have one. No one has time to
finish developing anything. And after all, your claim for participation rests on
a version from '99, or 2000 at the latest.

As Enrique wrote here, you have been reinvited under the terms you wanted, till
tomorrow, in which case the qualification will start Thursday. Quite feasible
logistically, and if logistics is the problem, say so and maybe something can be
arranged.
