To clarify, by loose pieces I don't only mean attacked ones. The LPDO is mainly speculative and aims at disrupting the deployment of the opponents pieces and increasing the cohesion of it's own. There is an interplay between LPDO and Mobility and Control, if LDPO scores too high one could wind up with a position with too restricted mobility. I see these kinds of scorings as an alternative to actual planning in my chess program. I use a slew of them instead of piece-square tables and such, as I dont like too much hardwired knowledge. I have seen some emergent behaviour at some settings f.ex: fighting for weak/important square complexes, Karpovian Rook lifts and the smothering of opponents with following decisive opening up of positions.
