Maybe slowly, but it is possible that somebody would step up and continue since
it is an open source project.

Probably "yes", but I am sure that some would be interested to contribute.
I would if I knew how and had the time.
I heard that the code is not very friendly, maybe a project for the WB/XB
community would be to rewrite part of the code to make it easier for further
modifications?

I do not think that you T.M. could do this "overnight", besides he is not
competing for a market so I think it is just coincidence.
