On the 1650, there are no a thru h increments on the levels. From level 2, 3 and up on the 1650 the time per move seems to increase at a greater rate. Level 8 seems to be an infinite level, more for position analysis and finding mates than playing games. Your level "0" is similar to mine, meant for beginners but too difficult for most beginning players. I'm not sure about the chip in mine, if its 4mhz or 8mhz like yours. I bought the RS 1650 back in 1984, but I'm not sure what year it first came out. Several of my friends and I are around the 1500 level, so it was just right to give us many good games. My model is great for travel; the only drawback is the size of the board and the pieces being small it can be difficult to see the board; plus pawns and bishops looked quite similar from a distance. At home I would use a regular size board and pieces for reference and would have more success. It also gave me an excuse to do more takebacks since some would be needed for not seeing the board well enough. Mark
