Here's a position from some analysis that could occur just to show the peril. Moves are 1.Rxd6 Kxd6 2.Kb4 Kc6 3.h4 (I find this to be a tougher defense than 3.c5 though it doesn't save the position) g6 4.g4 f6 (4...f5? 5.h5!) 5.c5 and here Black has exactly one winning move. All the others either draw or even _lose_. [D]8/p7/2k2ppp/2P1p3/1K4PP/8/P4P2/8 b - - I'll post the complete analysis of this position higher in the thread but basically here is what can happen: 5...a6? 6.Kc4 h5 7.gxh5 gxh5 8.Kd3! only draws. 5...Kd5? 6.Kb5 draws at best, but can even lose. Tablebases would probably help give a verdict. 5...a5?? 6.Kc4 wins for White! 5...f5?? 6.h5! also wins for White. and that leaves Black's only winning move AFAIK: 5...h5! So it is winning, yes, but the path is less than obvious at moments. Albert
