I think he was talking about the emitted object code. As for breaking the compilation of source code there are several issues. One major issue is that this is the egcs branch of gcc that is the backbone of the compiler, therefore it seems unreasonable that the developement team should have the onus of providing backwards compatability. Secondly it seem better to reject faulty code. Thirldly they could still have some bugs. IMO its good to do a complete rewrite of parts at regular and close intervals (obviously not very close for big projects). This would be a natural opportunity to do so. And the older less bug ridden versions of GCC will always be there. Regards Dan Andersson
