Tinker is not particularly fast, but on a P3 733MHz, it does perft 5 in 2.25 seconds and perft 6 in 57.30 This is with non-rotated bitmaps, and testing for check after each move. As I recall, other programs, including x88 type routines, are much faster at raw move generation. Brian
