i think you must be using the anaylsis mode with chess tiger. i set up both positions, and used the "computer move" button in the tool bar. tiger 14 instantly announced mate in both examples. this is different from some other programs. for example, shredder 5. if these positions are set up with shredder 5, when i select the analysis mode, shredder 5 will instantly show a mate. if i use analysis mode, with chess tiger, nothing happens. but if you use "computer move", chess tiger will show instant mate.
