I had the expensive version of CB7, which was also very nice. Chess Assistant is sold online for $109, less if you are doing a competitive upgrade ( http://65.108.45.181/ca60.htm ) at chess4less.com . The simple answer is that you won't go wrong with either program. Chessbase did a wonderful job, and Chess Assistant did a wonderful job. As Sarah said, it comes down to a matter of taste. The CA user interface isn't to everyone's liking, although I personally like it very much. Again, to me the key issue came down to what you got for your money. With CA6, you get a great database program, a 1.5 million game database, an opening book research database, Tiger 14 and Tiger Gambit 2 as both playing and analysis engines, and a very udeful ICC interface. It really is a 'one stop' program. As I said before, I like Chessbase very much, but if you want to play a game, you have to pop out of Chessbase into Fritz, or another program. If you want to go online to play some blitz or watch some GMs, you need to exit that and go to Blitzen or Winboard. Yes, you can autosave all of your games this way, but the integrated approach of CA6 simply works better for me. It's very convenient to do all of my chess study/play/work/analysis in once place. As I said, I really think you will be happy with eirher program. Heck, the freeware program SCID provides plenty of features for free. Regardless of your choice, you will be getting some fine software. Cheers, Chris
