About a year or more ago, I posted on this site a request for help in identifying an old chess computer I had purchased, with no manual, in a second-hand store. A number of people kindly responded to my post, but no one was able to identify it. Since I still don't know what I have here, I'm going to inquire here again. It is one of the old Fidelity chess challengers. All plastic, the housing is 10 inches by 11 inches by 1.5 inches high, with a playing surface 8 inches by 8 inches. Although plastic, the playing surface is magnetized. The color scheme is dark brown by light tan. The pieces are plastic with magnets, the Kings are 2 inches high. There is a lip at the top edge of the board, on which appear the words CHESS CHALLENGER. At the bottom edge, the side of the housing has FIDELITY ELECTRONICS on it. It appears to be vintage 1975 or so, I guess. Each square has an LED in the corner; the squares are pressure-sensitive; there is a vertical row of 8 keys under a single LED, running alongside the h-file. The playing strength is of course not impressive. I can beat it with one Rook tied behind my back. Well, most of the time. I am something of a collector of old chess computers, but I would like to know what this one is. eric
