When Fritz finds a mate it stops to search and it does not care about the shortest mate. Another point is that Fritz may give wrong information about the number of moves and I know cases when it claimed mate that was not possible and only a longer mate was possible(I am not sure about Deep Fritz but I am sure that it is truth for old versions of Fritz).
